El Sui
Description
El Sui is an emblematic mountain in the Montseny massif, reaching an altitude of 1,319 meters. It is located between the municipalities of Tagamanent and Montseny, in the Vallès Oriental region, marking the edge of the Pla de la Calma plateau.
Geologically, the summit is composed of metamorphic materials such as phyllite and hornfels, giving it a rough and rugged appearance with numerous rocky outcrops that make its ascent a challenging endeavor.
Despite being slightly lower than the nearby Puigdrau, El Sui is considered more emblematic due to its prominence and exceptional views. From its summit, marked by a pile of stones, hikers can enjoy panoramas of the main Montseny peaks (Matagalls, Les Agudes, Turó de l'Home), as well as distant landmarks like the Pyrenees, Sant Llorenç del Munt, Montserrat, and Montnegre. It is listed among the "100 cims" (100 peaks) by the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC).
Its name likely derives from "Sull," meaning "rough or rugged," reflecting the nature of its terrain. Access is often via ridge routes from points like Collformic or Vallforners, involving considerable elevation gain.
