Muntanya dels Àngels
Description
The Puig Alt (or Muntanya dels Àngels), with an altitude of 483 meters, is the highest point in this sector of the Les Gavarres Massif (Gironès). The summit, mainly formed by slate, is a privileged 360º viewpoint offering views from the Pla de Girona to the Pyrenees. The surroundings are Mediterranean forest (holm oaks and pine forests).
The summit is crowned by the Santuari de la Mare de Déu dels Àngels (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Angels), an important center of Marian devotion originating in 1409. The current building, rebuilt several times due to wars, includes a guesthouse and restaurant. Notably, it was the location of the secret wedding of Salvador Dalí and Gala (1958). It is an essential peak included in the FEEC's 100 Peaks challenge and is accessible both by road (GIV-6703) and on foot.
