Les Agudes
Description
Les Agudes (1,705 m) is the second highest mountain and one of the most emblematic peaks of the Montseny massif, located across the municipalities of Arbúcies (La Selva) and Fogars de Montclús and Montseny (Vallès Oriental). Along with Turó de l'Home and Matagalls, it forms the backbone of the massif.
Unlike the softer forms of Turó de l'Home, Les Agudes presents a more alpine and rugged character, described as a rocky lookout with a "bare" summit where exposed rock forms accentuated crests, channels, and spurs. Notable features include the Els Castellets ridge, known for being a more technical (scrambling) access route, and the scree slopes of Puig de Sacarbassa and Pedregar Gran.
Despite the harsh environmental conditions at the summit, its flora is of high botanical interest, featuring species with southern distribution limits or biogeographically isolated. In the lower parts and access routes, such as from Santa Fe, dense and spectacular beech forests dominate.
The summit is an excellent viewpoint offering privileged views of Turó de l'Home, Matagalls, the Eastern Pyrenees, the valleys of Arbúcies and Santa Fe, and on clear days, extends to the sea, Collserola, Montserrat, and even Mallorca.
Historically, it is known as the site of the most severe aviation accident in Catalonia (1970). It is one of the classic ascents in Catalan mountaineering, with popular access routes from Font de Passavets (Santa Fe) or Sant Marçal, via Els Castellets.
