Lo Peladet
Description
Lo Peladet is a very prominent mountain in the Pre-Pyrenees, included in the prestigious list of the FEEC's 100 summits. It rises to an altitude of 1,471 m (although officially 1,465.5 m is indicated).
Geographically, it is the westernmost point of the Montsec de Rúbies ridge, serving as a natural border between the municipalities of Llimiana (in Pallars Jussà) and Camarasa (in Noguera, within the Rúbies enclave). It is located directly north and forms a wall above the abandoned village of Rúbies, with nearby sites like the Portella Blanca pass or the Sant Salvador del Bosc Hermitage.
Like much of the Montsec range, Lo Peladet is primarily composed of limestone rock of marine origin. Its terrain features a striking contrast: one side with a gentle, homogeneous slope, typically used for ascent trails, and another side that plunges into a spectacular vertical cliff face. This characteristic makes it a highly frequented destination for climbing, with well-known classic routes.
Its elevated position transforms it into a privileged natural balcony over the Montsec. From the summit, an impressive landscape unfolds with a wide viewing angle, especially towards the north (towards the Pallars region), where under suitable conditions, a true sea of clouds can be observed in the valley.
