Pic Petit de Segre
Description
The Pic Petit de Segre (2,810 m), also known as Puigmal Petit de Segre, is a key mountain on the axial ridge of the Eastern Pyrenees. It is located on the border between Alta Cerdanya (Er and Llo) and Ripollès (Queralbs), strategically positioned between Puigmal d'Er, Puigmal de Llo, and Pic del Segre.
This elevation is fundamental within the Vall de Núria area, as it is one of the peaks forming its famous "Olla" (cirque). Together with the main Puigmal peak, it closes the head of the Er valley (Coma d'Aiguaneix). The summit is mainly formed by sandstone and mudstone, and its area lies within the protected Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser Natural Park.
The Pic Petit de Segre is usually not a final destination, but an essential passing point on major traverses, such as the "Quatre Puigmals" Route or the one connecting Coll de Finestrelles with Puigmal d'Er. Routes reach it by traversing the ridge from the Pic del Segre or ascending from the French slope (Cotzé/Les Planes).
