Pollegó inferior (Pedraforca)
Description
The Pollegó Inferior is the southern peak of the Pedraforca massif, reaching an altitude of 2,445 meters. Often considered wilder and more demanding than its sibling, the Pollegó Superior, from which it is separated by L'Enforcadura (the saddle).
This mountain stands out for its vertical walls, mainly composed of hard Lower Cretaceous limestones, which give it its characteristic 'fork-like' morphology. Its orography is defined by two major ridges: the Costes d'en Dou to the east (descending towards the cliff of El Roget) and the Llosanques to the west. Near the main summit is the Fals Pollegó Inferior.
Ascending the Pollegó Inferior is generally more technical and offers a more solitary experience. Notable routes include the classic and demanding Gran Diagonal on the south face (involving scrambling of grade II/III), the Costes d'en Dou route (passing through Balcó de la Joaquima), and access from L'Enforcadura. Its south face is renowned for slab climbing on compact limestone, featuring historic routes like "Pany-Haus" (1944) and "Estimball" (1979), with El Roget serving as an important area for high-difficulty sport climbing.
