Roc de Cogul
Description
The Roc de Cogul, standing at an altitude of 885 meters, is a prominent mountain in the Catalan Pre-Pyrenees. It is located in the municipality of Peramola, in the Alt Urgell region, and is integrated within the Serra d'Aubenç i Roc de Cogul Protected Natural Area. This peak holds emblematic and symbolic significance for the people of Peramola, as it rises directly above the urban center, and is included in the list of 100 Cims (100 Peaks) by the Catalan Hiking Federation (FEEC).
At the summit, hikers will find a lightning rod, a "senyera" (Catalan flag), and the summit cross. Geologically, Roc de Cogul is composed of limestone rock. The ascent combines sections along tracks and paths with quite abrupt and rocky ridge passages, where it is necessary to follow cairns carefully.
The summit serves as a magnificent balcony, offering privileged views and an exceptional visual spectacle. From here, one can enjoy panoramas of the village of Peramola, the Segre river valley, and the Serra de Sant Marc. The vista also extends to the town of Oliana and, in the background, the imposing Port del Comte mountain range.
