Turó de Tres Creus (turó de la Pola)
Description
The Turó de Tres Creus, also known as Turó de la Pola, is a prominent 930-meter high peak located in the municipality of Mura, within the Bages region. It is part of the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, where it represents the culminating point of the massif's great western ridge, in the Serra de l'Obac. This summit is included in the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC) 100 peaks list.
Access is typically gained from the nearby Coll de Tres Creus, where the GR 5 long-distance path passes, ascending via a trail that climbs directly towards the geodesic vertex. Geologically, the hill is composed of sedimentary conglomerate rock and features a rounded shape, characteristic of peaks formed by "standard conglomerate" similar to that found in Montserrat.
The Turó de la Pola serves as an authentic watchtower, offering one of the best 360º panoramic views of the entire massif. From the summit, one can behold the silhouette of Montcau and, on clear days, the Pyrenees to the north; the Pagès ridge and La Mola de Sant Llorenç to the east; the majestic Montserrat mountain range to the west, highly recommended for enjoying beautiful winter sunsets; and the Castellsapera massif and the Vallès plain to the south.
The surroundings of the hill are marked by lush holm oak forests and unique rock formations. At its western base, at the foot of the summit, lies the historic Font de la Pola (Pola Spring). This spring, which almost always has water and gives rise to the Cansalada stream, emerges from a long, worked-out rock shelter that historically served as a refuge for farmers, shepherds, and charcoal burners. Today, the shelter is equipped with concrete tables and benches, ideal for a stop.
