Turó del Samont
Description
The Turó del Samont (or Samon Hill) is a mountain located in the Montseny massif, within the municipality of Sant Pere de Vilamajor (Vallès Oriental). With an altitude of 1,273 meters, it is the highest point in this municipality and forms part of an abrupt step above the Tordera valley.
The summit, grassy and open, is situated beneath the eastern foothills of the Pla de la Calma. It is a privileged viewpoint offering 360º panoramic views, including the Montseny peaks (Turó de l'Home, Les Agudes, Matagalls), the Vallès Oriental plain, the Catalan Coastal Range (Serralada Litoral), and on clear days, Montserrat and the Pyrenees. It features a double summit, with the higher one topped by a geodesic vertex.
Geologically, it is composed of ancient Paleozoic materials, mainly Cambrian-Ordovician slates (llicorelles), with the presence of calcschists and limestones from the Devonian and Carboniferous periods. It is a significant hydrological point, as the Riera de Vilamajor river originates nearby. Its name derives from the historic Masia El Samont (documented since the 14th century). It is included in the FEEC's "100 Cims" (100 Peaks) challenge list.
