Turó de Tagamanent
Description
The Turó del Tagamanent, standing at 1,056 meters above sea level, is an emblematic peak located on the border between Vallès Oriental and Osona, within the Montseny Natural Park. Its distinctive silhouette, crowned by historic buildings, makes it one of the FEEC's 100 Summits.
Geologically, Tagamanent is a testament to the past, primarily composed of limestone and dolomite. It features a unique "circular structure," a tectonic singularity with Hercynian folds that created a dome. The flat summit provides evidence of ancient erosion surfaces, and nearby, in the Pla de la Calma, volcanic materials have been identified.
The natural environment is dominated by holm oak and pine forests, with oak trees near streams and pasture meadows in the higher areas. In the pond of the Ca l'Agustí farmhouse, amphibian fauna of interest, such as the marbled newt (Triturus marmoratus), can be observed.
From the summit, exceptional panoramic views unfold: the Plana de Vic and the eastern Pyrenees to the north, the Besòs valley, the Cingles de Bertí cliffs, and the sea to the south, and the Montseny massif to the east.
Tagamanent is also a place rich in historical heritage. At its peak stand the Church of Santa Maria (Romanesque, 12th century) and the remains of Tagamanent Castle, a strategic fortress documented since 945. At the foot of the hill, the Ca l'Agustí farmhouse functions as an ethnographic museum and preserves a pond of natural interest.
Access is possible via a classic and demanding hiking route from Figaró-Montmany, or by a more family-friendly paved road that leads almost to the top. Masia Bellver offers restaurant services and information.
