Winter Pedraforca: The Challenging Pollegó Superior via Coll del Verdet
Performed on 3/28/2026
Description
On March 28, 2026, despite the often-unfavorable weather that has characterized this season, we embarked on a truly memorable day in the heart of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. Initially, the Club Excursionista de Sant Vicenç dels Horts had planned an ascent of Cambra d'Ase, but strong winds redirected our path towards the iconic Pedraforca mountain. Our new objective: to conquer its Pollegó Superior on a challenging 8.19 km route.
I was already familiar with the ascent to Pollegó Superior via Coll del Verdet from my first climb of Pedraforca in September 2023. However, it quickly became apparent that winter entirely transforms Pedraforca. Under its white mantle, the mountain revealed a far more demanding personality. From the outset, the route presented itself as a true test, with numerous sections proving particularly difficult for me.
The presence of a significant amount of snow was the undisputed highlight of the day. We constantly relied on our crampons and ice axes, essential tools that ensured our safety step by step all the way to the summit. The beauty of the winter landscape was undeniable, offering spectacular views that amply rewarded the effort required.
This ascent has been a major personal challenge and a journey of overcoming. I must acknowledge that without the experience and unwavering support of my club companions, who are far more adept in these types of conditions, the objective would have been considerably harder to achieve. Their assistance was crucial in building confidence and navigating the more exposed sections. Reaching the summit of Pedraforca's Pollegó Superior in winter conditions is a truly impactful experience, one that undoubtedly reminds us of the mountain's grandeur and power.
