Exploring Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac: A Peak-Bagging Adventure
Performed on 2/22/2026
Description
On February 22, 2026, we embarked on an ambitious 24.6 km circular route through the Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac, aiming to link four of the emblematic "100 Summits of the FEEC": La Mola de Sant Llorenç del Munt, Montcau, Turó de la Pola (also known as Turó de Tres Creus), and Castellsapera. Starting from the Torre de l'Àngel car park, we began this long journey counter-clockwise, immersed in a spectacular, sunny day with pleasantly warm temperatures, ideal for exploration.
The first major ascent led us towards La Mola. Despite having climbed it several times, this time we opted for the Canal dels Cavalls, a route that almost delivers us directly to the summit. After the obligatory photos, we continued the route, deciding to follow the normal path instead of the Canal del Mico. This section led us to the peculiar Morral del Drac, a rock formation with a hole that seems sculpted by nature. From here, the landscape was new to me, opening up to the discovery of the Òrbits, with their enigmatic caves and the Font Flàvia, points of great geological and natural interest.
Resuming the main path, we advanced to Coll d'Eres to tackle the final ascent of Montcau. From this summit, the visual reward was magnificent: an impressive panoramic view of the entire snowy Pyrenees, stretching majestically on the horizon. After enjoying Montcau, it was time to descend to Coll d'Estenalles, where we crossed the road to head towards Sant Jaume, situated above "la Mata". From here, we embarked on a long, easy, and less-trafficked path that led us to Turó de la Pola, the perfect spot for a break and lunch.
With renewed energy, we faced what for me was the most impressive peak of the day: Castellsapera. This rocky summit, accessible with a simple scramble, stands out for its spectacular elongated cliff, divided into two parts, offering a truly striking view and a sense of authentic adventure. On the way back, we passed by other minor but equally interesting peaks, such as Roca del Corb, Puig Codina, and Punta dels Caus Cremats. The final descent guided us to the leisure area of Torrent de l'Escalola, and from there, back to the car park, concluding an epic day.
This spectacular day allowed us to thoroughly explore both the Serra de l'Obac and the Serra de Sant Llorenç del Munt, two conglomerate mountain ranges that offer spectacular views of Montserrat, Montseny, the Llobregat Basin, and the aforementioned snowy Pyrenees. A long and challenging circular route, full of inspiring landscapes and captivating peaks, ideal for mountain lovers and those seeking a challenge.
