Camprodon and its Sant Antoni: A Charming Morning Hike
Performed on 4/18/2026
Description
On April 18, 2026, taking advantage of my stay in Camprodon for the VI Micro-mineralogy Meeting, I aimed to add a new summit to the FEEC's «100 cims» list: Sant Antoni de Freixenet. A circular route of 8.92 km allowed me to explore the surroundings of this charming village in Ripollès.
The adventure began in the heart of Camprodon. After crossing the emblematic Pont Vell, a true symbol of the town, I reached the peaceful Parc de la Mare de la Font. From here, the ascent towards Sant Antoni quickly made its presence felt. A well-marked forest path winds steeply up the mountain, occasionally offering fleeting but captivating glimpses of Camprodon as it receded below.
Before reaching the hermitage, the trail led me to some distinctive communication towers, a sign that the summit was close. Once at the top, the Hermitage of Sant Antoni welcomed me with open arms, accompanied by a helpful orientation table. The views from this vantage point were, without a doubt, the highlight of the day. The majestic Canigó rose on the horizon, flanked by Costabona and Bastiments. To the south, the vastness of the Alta Garrotxa unfolded with Bassegoda and Comanegra serving as reference points, offering a true landscape spectacle.
The descent followed a comfortable track that led me to another point of interest: the Monument to Cèsar August Torras, a tribute to a key figure in Catalan hiking. The route continued past some refreshing fountains, eventually closing the loop back in Camprodon, putting the perfect finishing touch on an intense morning filled with spectacular views.
