The Heart of the Conglomerate of Sant Honorat
Performed on 4/5/2026
Description
On April 5, 2026, under almost summer-like sun, we headed to the Alt Urgell region to discover a geological treasure in the Sant Honorat area. A 16.56 km route awaited us to conquer two peaks from the FEEC "100 cims" list: Roc de Cogul and Sant Honorat.
We started the adventure at Can Boix, crossing through its grounds toward Bosc de l'Hostal, a shaded path that led us to Grau de Porta and Coll dels Quatre Camins. From this strategic point, we headed south to summit Roc de Cogul. At this first peak, we enjoyed a privileged perspective: behind us, the Sant Honorat conglomerate stretched out like a rock labyrinth marking our future path; on the other side, Peramola and the Rialb Reservoir were framed on the horizon.
After heading back to the mountain pass, we moved toward Sant Honorat, first exploring the unique "del Corb" area. We visited Forat del Corb and Casa del Corb, an impressive natural shelter carved into the rock. A nearby viewpoint allowed us to analyze the terrain of Sant Honorat before detouring toward Agulla del Corb and the charming Chapel of Sant Salvador del Corb. From there, we enjoyed views of the Montsec de Rúbies (where I recently reached two summits).
The most vibrant part began at Coll de Mur: traversing the conglomerate. For about 3 km, we moved through a landscape reminiscent of the magic of Montserrat or Serra de l'Obac, among whimsical rock formations and winding torrents. A truly captivating geological experience!
Finally, we reached the Sant Honorat plateau and its iconic chapel, where we spent some time exploring the various natural viewpoints along the cliffs. From these vantage points, we could observe the Oliana Reservoir and the magnificent structure of the breached anticline of Oliana. It is fascinating to see how erosion has hollowed out its core, composed of softer marls, while the resistant conglomerates that once protected them still rise on the flanks, creating a unique morphology.
To top off the day, we visited the Chapel of Castell-llebre, a Romanesque gem overlooking the Oliana Reservoir. The return journey, passing under the massive walls of the Rombau sector, marked the end of a route of wild and unforgettable beauty.
