Triple Summit Challenge in the Ardenya Massif: Between Granite and the Mediterranean

To mark the close of December 31, 2025 with a truly memorable day, we set out to explore the stunning beauty of the Ardenya Massif, also known as Cadiretes Massif, on an ambitious triple-summit route. The forecast of inland fog guided us towards the Girona coast, a wise decision that blessed us with a clear day, radiant sunshine, and an ideal temperature for hiking.

The 13.3 km adventure began at the edge of the La Casa Nova neighborhood in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, specifically at the well-known Coll dels Tres Camins. From this strategic starting point, we climbed winding trails to our first objective: Puig de les Cols. From here, the views already hinted at the grandeur of the two peaks that awaited us.

The descent led us through a captivating landscape, passing the mysterious Menhir Es Terme Gros and several mountain passes, before beginning the ascent to Montclar. A short scramble brought us to this summit, where the reward was spectacular: a 360º panorama encompassing Montseny, El Far, and the majestic Puigmal and Canigó, their peaks completely white with snow. Towards the coast, the view opened up to the Empordà region, the city of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and the endless blue of the Mediterranean Sea.

Retracing part of our path, we resumed the route towards our final summit, passing by the enigmatic Menhir de les Sorres. Finally, we reached Puig Gros, the point closest to the sea, topped with several antennas. Despite its distinctive appearance, we managed to locate the geodetic marker signifying its highest point. The return to the car proved quite an adventure, as the final trail crossed a stream brimming with water due to recent Christmas storms. This was a striking contrast in a landscape typically dry and more arid due to the presence of sauló (granite), very different from our usual routes in the Pyrenean areas.

This route became the perfect farewell to the year, an immersion into the unique character of the Ardenya Massif that combines coastal landscapes, commanding peaks with impressive views, and the testament of a megalithic heritage connecting us to a millenary past.
