The second week of February saw us fulfilling a promise: to conquer Taga, an imposing mountain we had recently admired from Pedró de Tubau, now beckoning us to its snow-covered slopes. And so it was! On an 8.68 km route, we ventured up the Pardines side, starting our adventure slightly above Santa Magdalena de Puigsac, where the abundance of parked cars already hinted at the day's popularity.
With our gear ready in our backpacks, we began to gain altitude along a track that, around 1450-1500 meters, invited us to put on our snowshoes. The path was peaceful, with no navigation difficulties, and initially under an intense blue sky. However, as we progressed, clouds gradually began to weave across the sky, eventually transforming into a thick fog during the final stretch of the ascent. This unexpected turn added a touch of intrigue and adventure to our climb.
Once at the summit of Taga, the dense fog unfortunately deprived us of the panoramic views we so eagerly anticipated. Nevertheless, the atmosphere at the top was vibrant; the summit was bustling with people enjoying the snow on skis or snowshoes, creating a sense of camaraderie amidst the vastness. After taking the obligatory photos by the imposing white cross that stands majestically, we began our descent.
The descent proved to be a genuine navigation challenge. A fog so thick that it barely allowed us to see beyond a meter enveloped us, but with the aid of the map on our mobile, the path remained clear and safe. Finally, as if a curtain had lifted, we emerged from the fog to be greeted by a radiant 'snow sun' that illuminated the final kilometers. It was a magical moment, allowing us to enjoy renewed views and marvel at the majestic Puigmal, completely blanketed in snow, offering a picture-postcard winter landscape. An unforgettable route that reminded us of the beauty and unpredictability of the mountains in winter.
