Small Gem in Cap de Creus: The Anacamptis morio
Observed on 4/3/2026
Description
During our memorable trek through Cap de Creus, along the breathtaking stretch connecting the charming town of Cadaqués with the historic monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes, we were incredibly fortunate to make a singular discovery. Amidst the windy and rocky landscape, a humble yet radiant specimen of Anacamptis morio, commonly known as the Green-winged Orchid, captured our complete attention.
This tiny survivor, standing at a surprisingly modest height of just about 7-10 cm, defied expectations by proudly displaying its five fully open flowers in an absolutely splendid state of bloom. Each of its delicately structured flowers, with its characteristic labellum, radiated an admirable vitality. Observing such a diminutive yet perfectly bloomed and solitary specimen in such a vast and rugged environment was a true privilege and an eloquent reminder of the resilience and unexpected beauty that nature constantly bestows upon us. A magical moment in our orchid exploration of Cap de Creus!
