Hundreds of Anacamptis pyramidalis near Sils
Observed on 5/18/2025
Description
Our latest botanical expedition led us to the enchanting surroundings near Sils, Catalonia, where we were privileged to witness a truly spectacular display of Anacamptis pyramidalis, the beloved Pyramidal Orchid. The sight that greeted us was nothing short of breathtaking.
We meticulously counted an astounding 415 specimens, spread across sun-kissed meadows. What made this encounter particularly special was observing them in various stages of bloom, some just unfurling their first delicate florets, others in glorious full pyramidal splendour, and a few beginning their graceful decline. The vast majority of plants were in remarkably good condition, their vibrant magenta or pink spikes standing tall and proud, a testament to the health and vitality of this Mediterranean habitat. It was a joyful testament to nature's abundance and the resilience of these exquisite wild orchids in Catalonia.
