Two Specimens of Cephalanthera longifolia at 500 meters
Observed on 4/12/2026
Description
On our return journey from the Alt Empordà region, where we had aimed to inspect the status of a promising Ophrys zone (though, admittedly, it proved a little too early for its rarer inhabitants), we were delighted by an unexpected encounter that brightened our day.
At an altitude of approximately 500 meters, deep within the La Selva region, we located the first flowering specimens of Cephalanthera longifolia for this season. The delicate beauty of its white blooms, with their characteristic yellowish labellum, is always a welcome sight. We were fortunate enough to observe two magnificent specimens. Though few in number, they herald the advance of spring and the beginning of a new cycle for the orchids in the area. A small treasure that reminds us nature always holds surprises, even when we're searching for something else entirely!
