Cypripedium calceolus: The success of the annual wait
Observed on 6/9/2025
Description
The Cypripedium calceolus was, without a doubt, the main objective and the reward we look forward to year after year. Its spectacular blooming is a key event for any mountain orchid lover. This orchid, with its unmistakable yellow slipper-shaped labellum and dark brown petals, is a symbol of the biodiversity of our mountains.
The search unfolded successfully across three specific locations. We began with an encouraging find of two specimens at a first spot. Subsequently, the localization of a solitary specimen at a second point maintained the excitement. Finally, success culminated with the discovery of eight splendid flowering plants in the area that, as every year, offers us this marvel. The confirmatory find of eight specimens at the key spot ensures the vitality of this protected and highly prized population.
