Dactylorhiza maculata, no surprise
Observed on 6/9/2025
Note about the genus Dactylorhiza
Orchids of the genus Dactylorhiza are easily confused with each other. Therefore, observations of this genus may not be entirely accurate regarding the identified species.
Description
The Dactylorhiza maculata was, without a doubt, the dominant species in various points of our exploration in Berguedà. Its adaptability to wet meadows and forest edges makes it very abundant, and we found a large quantity of specimens, many of them sharing space with Dactylorhiza majalis, Platanthera chlorantha and Gymnadenia conopsea.
This orchid stands out for the characteristic dark spots on its leaves and the color variability of its flowers, ranging from light pinkish-white to more intense lilac tones. Its massive presence is not only a visual spectacle but also serves as a basis for understanding the complex network of orchids that bloom in this Pre-Pyrenean region.
