Dactylorhiza maculata: Large and abundant specimens next to the Varradòs
Observed on 6/21/2025
Note about the genus Dactylorhiza
Orchids of the genus Dactylorhiza are easily confused with each other. Therefore, observations of this genus may not be entirely accurate regarding the identified species.
Description
The Dactylorhiza maculata is, without a doubt, one of the most characteristic orchids of the Val d'Aran and the Pyrenees. We found a large number of specimens in excellent flowering condition, many of them quite large. All were located on the banks of the Varradòs River, in the damper areas near the waterfall. Its presence is a clear indicator of the health of the damp meadows and forests in this region.
