Exploring Montgrí: The Splendor of H. robertianum
Observed on 2/21/2026
Description
A day of exploration through the Montgrí massif treated us to an exceptional encounter with one of our favorite orchids. During our circular route, which included the ascent to the majestic Montgrí Castle, we were fortunate enough to locate a total of 16 specimens of Himantoglossum robertianum.
What thrilled us most was observing that the majority of these magnificent plants were at their optimal flowering stage, displaying their full beauty with vibrant inflorescences. The first sightings were made very close to the walls of Montgrí Castle, as if guarding its ancient legacy. However, the largest concentration was discovered in the tranquil barbecue area of Ermita de Santa Caterina, a true oasis of orchids amidst nature. A discovery that fills us with joy and reminds us of the rich botanical heritage of our region!
