O. passionis near Alòs de Balaguer Castle
Observed on 3/21/2026
Description
Seizing the opportunity of a glorious day in the La Noguera region, we embarked on a journey to the historic village of Alòs de Balaguer. Our primary goal was to explore its imposing castle, which majestically crowns a hilltop, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.
It was during our ascent to this ancient fortress, amidst the rocky terrain and Mediterranean scrubland, we found upon five specimens of Ophrys passionis. Each individual plant, with its velvety petals and distinctive labellum, was in splendid bloom.
