The Sawfly Orchid of Alt Empordà: A Pink Jewel
Observed on 3/14/2026
Description
During an intense day of exploration across the captivating landscape of Alt Empordà, we had the pleasure of making a series of truly rewarding orchid observations. The undisputed star of this particular outing was the majestic Ophrys tenthredinifera, commonly known as the Sawfly Orchid, of which we encountered numerous specimens showcasing their characteristic beauty.
Among these, one specimen stood out in a particularly special way: an Ophrys tenthredinifera with a very pink hue, a true gem that added a unique touch to our discovery. But the diversity didn't stop there; alongside them, we located a multitude of Ophrys arachnitiformis and, to complete the picture, a few elegant blooms of Ophrys passionis. An impressive display of the botanical richness hidden within this magnificent region!
