The Monkey Orchid Defies the Sun in Sant Martí Sacalm
Observed on 5/25/2025
Description
During our ascent towards El Far, setting off from Sant Martí Sacalm, nature graced us with an encounter with one of the most charismatic orchids of our region: Orchis simia, also known as the Monkey Orchid.
Right in the meadows close to the municipality, we located several specimens already showing signs of a late season and intense sunshine. Their flowers, though still beautiful, were a little 'scorched' by the midday sun, lending them an air of maturity and resilience.
Among them all, one individual stood out remarkably: a very tall and robust specimen, rising with an imposing presence, almost as a testament to the species' vitality even under harsher conditions. An observation that reminds us of the beauty and adaptability of these botanical wonders!
