Corallorhiza trifida: The Hidden Rarity
Observed on 6/9/2025
Description
The Corallorhiza trifida is the rarity of the day and one of the most prized secrets of the forest. This saprophytic orchid is one of the less common species, characterized by its greenish-yellow stem and lack of visible leaves, depending entirely on fungal symbiosis for its nutrition.
Its habitat is as particular as the plant itself: we located the specimens in a humid and shady spot, barely visible among the layer of dry leaves. The surprise was great upon discovering a group of 13 flowering plants, relatively close together. Finding such a high concentration of Corallorhiza trifida in a single spot is an indicator of the pristine nature and ecological quality of the location.
