Dactylorhiza fuchsii: The spot visible from the road
Observed on 6/9/2025
Note about the genus Dactylorhiza
Orchids of the genus Dactylorhiza are easily confused with each other. Therefore, observations of this genus may not be entirely accurate regarding the identified species.
Description
The Dactylorhiza fuchsii is one of the orchids that best announces the arrival of the season. This species, very similar to Dactylorhiza maculata but with key differences in its labellum (more deeply lobed), is often abundant and highly visible. We found good specimens blooming near the road, forming clusters that are easily distinguished from a distance.
Its ease of growth in wet meadows and path edges makes it a common but always welcome find. Its intense color, ranging from pink to lilac, and its height make it stand out. The abundance of D. fuchsii in these areas significantly contributes to the overall coloration of the floristic landscape of Berguedà during the month of June.
