Himantoglossum robertianum on the Albera Trail
Observed on 3/8/2026
Description
Nature rewarded us during our hike to summit Puig d'Esquers and Puig d'en Jordà. We were deeply immersed in the stunning Albera National Natural Park of National Interest, a landscape where mountains meet the sea, and the flora possesses a truly unique character, offering surprises with every step.
Right next to the historic Ermita de Sant Martí de Vallmala, a place of particular charm and tranquility that invites contemplation, we made an observation that, while not a huge surprise for the seasoned enthusiast, was a definite highlight for my companions. We spotted no fewer than 9 specimens of Himantoglossum robertianum. This orchid is well-known and typical of our region, with its robust inflorescence and striking flowers often heralding the arrival of spring. The most rewarding aspect was witnessing the delight of my fellow hikers as they were able to put a name to this orchid, sharing the joy of identification amidst such an exuberant landscape. A sighting that is always worthwhile and reminds us of the rich natural heritage surrounding us!
