Neottia ovata: The orchid hidden in the tall grass
Observed on 6/9/2025
Description
The Neottia ovata is the master of camouflage in the undergrowth. This subtle greenish-yellow orchid blends seamlessly with the vegetation, making it extremely difficult to detect. We managed to locate a couple of specimens blooming among the tall grass in a meadow within the forest.
Although it is likely that there were many more plants in the area, only the most trained eyes can distinguish its tiny flowers and stem. Finding these two specimens was a small botanical victory, underscoring that the majority of natural beauty often resides in the most difficult details to perceive.
