Ophrys insectifera: The camouflaged forest find
Observed on 6/9/2025
Description
The Ophrys insectifera was the sole representative of the fascinating Ophrys genus that we located during the day. This orchid is a gem due to its deception pollination strategy, as its labellum perfectly mimics the appearance of a female insect to attract the male.
We found about three individual specimens in good condition in the middle of the forest, with their long, dark brown labellum hanging elegantly.
