Orchid Field Trip: Exploring Gironès and Baix Empordà
Performed on 5/3/2026
Description
This Sunday, an orchid field trip was undertaken with the primary objective of exploring new locations and documenting local flora. The itinerary included visits to two distinct botanical points of interest within the province of Girona, offering insights into the region's orchid diversity.
The first stop was in Gironès, where the presence of Serapias perez-chiscanoi was recorded. However, the specimens were already in an advanced stage, having passed their optimal flowering period. Additionally, other orchid species were identified, complementing the botanical records for the area.
Subsequently, the exploration proceeded towards Baix Empordà. This second location proved particularly productive, with numerous specimens of Anacamptis coriophora subsp. fragrans found in good flowering condition. The observation of Ophrys scolopax subsp. picta was also documented, adding further diversity to the day's findings.
Conditions were favorable for prospecting, facilitating the exploration and observation of species throughout the day. The outing proved to be interesting, contributing to the expansion of knowledge regarding the distribution of orchids within the Girona counties.
During this outing, the following orchid species were observed:
